the Summer of Buff

My recent post on the joys of naked babies inspired me to set a summer goal for myself: to get in the best shape of my life.

Helping this endeavor is that during most of my High School and college years –arguably when most women peak physically– I was dating a smoking/drinking/junk-food-eating guy and fitness was not a priority for me (in fact, it wasn’t even a consideration).

After college, however, I started eating healthy, doing pilates, and competing in marathons and triathlons– which may give me a run (literally!) for the best-shape-of-my-life challenge.  However, I’ve had a couple kids and the flab is there.

Here’s what I intend to do:
1) vinyassa yoga 2-3+ times per week
2) run at least twice a week
3) train for, and kick butt in, a Spartan Race (my 3rd)
4) eat healthy (I know this is vague, but I’m not willing to cut out afternoon ice cream cones and strawberry shortcake, so I’m going to attempt to exercise it off)

Why am I doing this? (other than my standard answer: because I can!)  Sure, I want to look good in a bathing suit, but more importantly, I want to be comfortable in my body the way my snerds are; show them I’m proud of myself.

So who’s with me??  Do you think it’s reasonable to endeavor to be in the best shape of my life in my early thirties?  Anyone else want to try this?

Actually yes! My husband and I are making a big move to VA for a new job opportunity in just a few weeks and I have decided that with all this changing, another change for me was due. I am not a person that has ever been inclined to exercise but I recently found on pintrest a “couch to 5K” exercise regimens that gradually works your self up in 10 weeks from no exercise to actually running a 5K. It looks totally do-able and as soon as we get the keys and the moving truck to the new house in VA, I will be starting this! I am really excited, and hope that by the end of the year I am in much better shape than I have been in the last few. Challenge Accepted! Thirty ain’t got nothing on this Mommy!
