I’ve already raved about Amazon’s “Amazon Mom” program, but now I’m gushing about another Amazon invention: Subscribe & Save.
I used to shun any company that wanted to automatically order products (i.e. automatically deduct money from my bank account) for me. However, now that I’m a mom (meaning I’m too busy to brush my hair, much less visit a website, shop and place an order), I’ve started exploring this option. Turns out, you can put Subscribe & Save on any product (baby stuff, beauty supplies, household items, even groceries) and immediately save 15%, plus get free shipping. The best part? There’s no commitment. (So, technically, you could set up “Subscribe & Save”, place one order and then cancel it and still score the discount and free shipping.)
This could be helpful for lots of products, but it really shines for diapers, because –in case you haven’t realized– you need a lot of diapers (over 6,000 until the potty training holy grail), and it’s difficult to lug a bulky jumbo box and an infant needing a change. Plus, diapers aren’t cheap, so savings can pile up faster than the laundry, and ensures you don’t run out of diapers at 10pm the day before a holiday.
For example, I use Nature Babycare Eco-Friendly diapers, size 3. The list price for a 4-pack (124 diapers; about 1 month’s worth) is $43.99. Between Amazon Mom and Subscribe & Save, I pay $25 and the box appears on my doorstep once a month. If I’m running low, I just click a button to have the next shipment sent pronto; clicking a different button delays or cancels the next order. I’m totally in control. Now I wish it were that easy to control the little people wearing the diapers!
And, in case you’re wondering, no, Amazon did not pay me to write this. I just really, really, like Amazon… and I like saving money, and eco-friendly diapers, and things that make my life easier… speaking of which…

Amazon has changed the terms quite a bit. It used to include 2-day shipping, although you may still get quick shipping if you live near one of their warehouses. The biggest thing now is that they got rid of the option for an extra shipment if you’re running low. I think a lot of people have been using it to get the discount, but using it like they were making specific purchases. Now the only option is to change the shipment schedule date, which might not get a shipment in quickly.
Regarding the last post, I think I spoke too soon about the early delivery being killed or changed. I got a bit confused about the webpage format change. However, I do remember when they used to have standard 2-day shipping which has been discontinued.
